Through Four Eyes: That Bob Dylan quote...
I know exactly what you mean. The Essential Bob Dylan album costs $16.99 as an mp3 download! This doesn’t even include the cost of a player, the cost of a computer or an internet connection!
I’m in a family of five as well. If I wanted to buy Bob Dylan for all of us, it would cost close to $85. This is after we’ve spent up to $1000 on iPods for all of us. I just don’t know how anyone except the super rich elite can afford Bob Dylan.
What was the point of this? Not only did what you say make little sense by itself, but it had nothing to do with the discussion. I brought up a good and serious point and received a good and serious response from themuseologist. I’m unable to figure out what your motives were for your childish response. Sarcasm? Derailment?
How can I derail a conversation that I started? Which, I believe, started with a oft-reblogged Bob Dylan quote from a time where he addled on drugs and Warhol groupies. It was just another attack on an institution that was popular during the 60s.
And yet you tried to turn it into a discussion about entrance fees and elitism.
Let’s analyse how that set of logic went: You can’t afford it a museum ticket, so it’s elitist. At this very moment in time, I cannot afford new shoes. Can I say that new shoes are elitist?
What is the cost of elitism? Less than the cost of a Bob Dylan mp3 album download. You can see the absurdity of a so-called icon of the American counter-culture talking about museums when he’s a massive sell-out whose digital albums cost more than the entrance fee.
And you’ve become all snippy because I’ve pointed out how strange this conversation has become, by using wit rather than anger. Museums being elitist is a myth. Bob Dylan is a myth.
I’m no longer going to respond today as I’m off to work in a museum with an extensive public program. Have a good, productive day.
